There are three ways to climb the Col De La Croix De Fer. The climb links Bourg d'Oisans and St.-Jean-de-Maurianne which then gives access to over 13 famous and iconic cycling climbs in the French Alps. It is classified as HC or hors categorie due to its difficulty but it does reward the cyclist with spectacular views! The pass is named after the iron cross at the summit that was placed there in the 18th century by a priest to commerate the numerous travelers that perished trying to navigate the pass.
